Built in dry dock.  Keel laid Nov 1, 1978;  floated May 16, 1981

730’ LOA, 714’3” LBP, 75’10” beam, 50’ depth
1 deck, arch cargo hold construction, hatches @ 24’, oil-fired diesel engine, 9000 BHP

723 x 76 x 47, 24194 GT, 16023 NT     Can 395424     to:
Upper Lakes Shipping Ltd., Toronto ON (home port Toronto ON)

Entered service Oct 28, 1981 clearing the shipyard for Conneaut OH.  Up Welland Canal Oct 28, 1981.

Suffered major engine room fire Nov 30, 1987 at Nanticoke ON.  Repairs begun at St. Catharines ON by Port Weller Dry Docks Ltd. but vessel towed down the St. Lawrence Seaway to Sorel QC in mid-December before the Seaway winter shutdown. 

Sold 1987 for off-Lakes service and did not return to Great Lakes service.  Renamed Pioneer (Vanuatu) and cleared Trois Rivieres QC Dec 23, 1987
