Entered service 1881

Foundered Nov 13, 1883  15 miles off Holland MI, Lake Michigan.  Enroute from Chicago IL to Buffalo NY with cargo of corn.  Picked up disabled tug Protection off Saugatuck MI.  Cargo of steamer shifted.  Set sail, which was blown away.  Steering gear broke in the trough of the sea.  The tug cut her tow line and left.  Steamer set both anchors and foundered.  Six lives lost including her captain.  Eighteen saved by the yawl from schooner Driver.  Enrollment surrendered Nov 21, 1888.
