Requisitioned 1940 for off-Lakes service during World War II and left the Great Lakes

Exploded Oct 6, 1941 off the east coast of Trinidad, Caribbean Sea.  Enroute from Demerara, British Guiana to St. Thomas VI with a cargo of bauxite.

  1. My grandfather was chief engineer on the boat and had to March 120 miles through the jungle to Port of Spain after sitting 14 hours in an open boat. Where could I find out more details. I appreciate any assistance with additional information that you could give me.
