Entered service July 7, 1914 clearing Ecorse MI for Cleveland OH

Fleet transferred 1929 to management of Bethlehem Transportation Corporation, Cleveland OH, H. K. Oakes, Mgr.

Home port to Wilmington DE 1955

Converted to crane vessel 1956 at Toledo OH by American Ship Building Co.
Remeasured to 6423 GT, 4995 NT

Sold 1970 to Miller Compressing Co., Milwaukee WI for service as a freight transfer vessel at Milwaukee.

Sold 1992 to K & K Warehousing , Menominee MI and towed to Menominee, then to Marinette WI,  for similar service.

  1. were do I find manifest of William h donner looking for father who was a crain operator in the late fiftys on the donner HELP thank you daryll newcomb son of ray a newcomb

    • I don’t have a list of captains but I do have the published list of assignments of captains at the beginning of the seasons 1899-1989. What vessels and for what years do you need?

      • The Schroeder Historical Society is looking for the captain that would have brought the last load of Taconite Pellets to Taconite Harbor on June 23, 2001. There is a picture posted on my Facebook page in search of finding who is pictured. I would be willing to share it with you, if that would help.

      • Indeed Kenny Fuller was Captain on the Donner in the late 1950s and early 1960s. My dad, Cleveland Hyde was 1st mate on the Donner until April 29th 1963 when he passed away aboard the Donner.

  3. My Grandfather was the 3rd Ass’t. Engineer.Volney P Budd.. He died before I was born.. Trying to find out about him and the ships he sailed on..

  4. The William H Donner did cary iron ore in late 1950s and early 1960s. My dad, Cleveland Hyde was a mate on the Donner and was 2st mate on it on April 29th 1993 when he died on board while docking in Detroit, Mi.
