  1. The M.V. Charles R. Huntley 148898 was purchased by Alexander Humes Ltd. in 1988 & was used for dredging the St. John, NB harbor in the fall/winter of 1988. She then make her way to Shelbourne to winter there. In the spring of 1989 she had the 2 harbor master drives (Detroit Diesel 12V71’s) replaced with Detroit Diesel V92 engines, she also had a 12 cyl. Caterpillar main drive as well as a 6 cyl Detroit Diesel bow thruster. The dredge pump was powered by a Detroit Diesel 16V71. A 100HP electric jet pump was added to the dredge head at the same time as the V92’s.. She spent the summer of 1989 dredging in the St. Lawrence seaway east of Quebec City. In October of 1989 while making her way to berth at Shelbourne, NS she encountered a storm somewhere off of the coast Halifax where in the hull was fractured in 4 areas due to the rough seas (this was the same storm which the movie Perfect Storm was based on, add the end of the movie their was not mention of the 13 Canadian fisherman that lost there lives in that same storm). She made her way to Halifax with a list to starboard for emergency repairs to the hull. After which she went on to Shelbourne where after which she was purchased by another company & was used for dredging for 1 more season I believe & then she was scrapped afterwards. I was the electrician onboard during this period of time.
