Engine from str. Ocean of 1850, which was converted to a barge in 1862

Enrolled at Detroit MI Sept 1, 1862 (#156)
243’ x 34’ x 13’6”, 1075 48/95 tons

Remeasured 1865 under Act of May 6, 1865 (new measuring rules) to 248.0 x 34.0 x 14.7, 1265.91 tons     US 16463  

Sold 1868 to Detroit & Cleveland Steam Navigation Co., Detroit MI

Sunk June 20, 1868 in collision with bark Courtland off Lorain OH, Lake Erie.  Loss of life reported between 23 and 45.  Most of crew and passengers rescued by str. R. N. Rice.  All 13 aboard Courtland lost.  Enrollment surrendered Dec 24, 1872 (delay in surrender because attempts were made to raise the vessel from the Lake Erie bottom.
