Entered service May 1963.  Up Welland Canal May 24, 1963.

Transferred 1964 to Eastern Lake Carriers Ltd., Montreal QC, Papachristidis Co., Mgr.

Renamed Grande Hermine 1967.

Fleet sold 1972 to Jackes Shipping Ltd., Toronto ON, Upper Lakes Shipping Ltd., Mgr. (home port to Toronto ON) and renamed Canadian Mariner.

Transferred 1979 to Upper Lakes Shipping Ltd., Toronto ON

Management transferred 1990 to Seaway Bulk Carriers, St. Catharines ON, a vessel operation and management joint venture of Algoma Central Railway and ULS Corporation to operate  their straight deck vessels, ULS Corporation, Mgr.

Self-unloader and straight deck management organizations of these firms merged 2000 into a single firm, Seaway Marine Transport, St. Catharines ON

Sold 2003 to Distributions Grands Lacs/Ste.-Laurent, Trois Rivieres QC for use as a storage barge at Trois Rivieres.  Towed 2004 to Trois Rivieres.

Sold for scrap 2007 to Turkish shipbreakers.  Cleared Trois Rivieres Aug 16, 2007 towed by tug Hellas.  Tow arrived Aliaga Turkey Sept 26, 2007.

  1. Great info, my folks found a huge picture of this vessel from her very early days, unfortunately there is water damage, fading, etc. and it’s no good. Not sure where the picture came from, (one of her out on a lake, not the more common one of her in a lock).
    Do you know any info on Calvert Distillers? My dad worked in the liquor business in the early 60’s, this picture may have been a gift to him and just kind of forgotten, again unfortunately.
    Just wondering for interest sake if you knew of Calvert Distillers involvement in shipping?

    • No, I don’t know but I expect that if you posed this question in the Information Search section of boatnerd.com, a lot of us would be interested in the answer from one the knowledgeable people who follow those pages.
