Lengthened, deepened, repowered with a diesel engine and converted to self-unloader 1960 at Montreal QC by Canadian Vickers Ltd.
Remeasured to 334.6 x 43.8 x 21.6, 3061 GT, 2171 NT

Renamed Orefax 1961

Sold 1972 to McNamara Corporation Ltd. for use as a spoils carrier on a dredging project on the St. Lawrence River and withdrawn from Great Lakes service.  Assigned to Consortium ile d’Orleans.  Laid up at Whitby ON upon completion of the project.  Renamed Isle Royale.

Sold for scrap 1988 to Marine Salvage Ltd., Port Colborne ON and scrapped at Port Colborne.

  1. I believe my grandfather worked on this vessel after ww2. He made several scale models for many years, I have one of the models and thought I would see if I could find a picture of original

  2. Hi Mark,
    My Father Capt. Tom Davis was appointed Skipper of the South Cliff Hall in 1948. and sailed her until 1957 when he became a St. Laurence River pilot after the Seaway was dug.
