Fleet merged 1903 into Gilchrist Transportation Co.,

Fleet went into receivership 1910

Sold at auction 1913 to Lackawanna Steamship Co., Cleveland OH, Pickands Mather & Co., Mgr.  Fleet renamed Interlake Steamship Co.

Cargo hold rebuilt 1915 to arch construction

Converted 1927 to crane vessel at Toledo OH by Toledo Shipbuilding Co.

Home port to Wilmington DE 1932

Sold 1941 to Bethlehem Steel Co., Buffalo NY

Sold 1958 to Steel Products Steamship Corporation, Sault Ste. Marie MI and renamed Steel Products.

Sold for scrap 1961 to Marine Salvage Ltd., Port Colborne ON.  Towed toward Port Colborne Oct 26, 1961.  Tow line parted and vessel stranded on Point Abino, Lake Erie.  Scrapped there by Harry Gamble,  Port Dover ON over next several years.

  1. My grandfather served on a great lakes freighter of the name VENUS in 1973. I did not see this vessel listed. Was it perhaps renamed, and is listed under another name?
